Arisi Paruppu Kanji (Rice Dhal Porridge)
Ingredients
- Par boiled rice – 1cup
- Moongdhal/pasiparuppu – 1/2 cup
- Seeragam/cumin seeds – 1 tspn
- Salt – a pinch
Procedure
- Dry roast the rice until it starts spluttering (kind of puffed rice)
- Dry roast the moong dhal /pasiparuppu until you get a nice aroma
- Dry roast the seeragam/cumin seeds until you get a nice aroma
- Grind well using a small mixie jar
- You can keep the mix in an air tighter container
Serving suggestion
- Take 2 tsp of rice dhal mix and mix it with a cup of super-hot water/milk; mix it well without lumps. If you are using plain water to create the mix, then keep the mix in a low flame for few mins until it reaches smooth and creamy consistency.
- It is ready to be served now.
- Feed your baby when its became warm
- Once your baby is ok with the first solid food, start this rice dhal porridge meal with a little thin consistency
- You can gradually increases your feeding level and make thicker consistency
Note
- When you introduce any new food to your baby, usually they might not be initially much attracted to it. They might not like the taste too; but be patience; eventually they will get used to and like it
- You can introduce this arisi paruppu kanji when your baby is at 6 month old or so
- This kanji has paruppu/pulses and this might initially cause indigestion for your baby; using carom seeds will aid in digestion and will help sooth your little ones tummy in case of an indigestion
- Moongdhal/pasiparuppu are good source of protein and have a very high source of essential nutrients
- It is quiet common that your baby will intake only half a spoon or so for the very first time; new moms don’t get worried/upset; be patience and persistent
- You can slowly increase your level of feeding
