Arisi Kanji (rice porridge)

When your baby reaches 4 months, you are ready to introduce solid food for your baby. Though you start solids for your infant, continue to breast feed (or fomula milk if that was the case) as long as you can. You can start this rice porridge as one meal per day; this is a basic SOLID starter

  • It is quiet common that your baby will intake only half a spoon or so for the very first time; new moms do not get worried or upset. You can slowly increase your level of feeding
  • Why we introduced RICE as the first porridge to your baby
    • It is easy to digest
    • Good source of B complex and vitamins
    • Best cure for diarrhea and dysentery or any stomach upset problems
    • It improves and regulates bowel movement

Ingredients

  • Par boiled rice – 1cup
  • Omam/carom seeds – 1 tspn
  • Salt – a pinch

 Procedure

  • Dry roast the rice until it starts spluttering (kind of puffed rice)
  • Dry roast omam/carom seeds until you get a nice aroma
  • Grind rice and the roasted seeds well using a small mixie jar
  • Keep the mix in an air tighter container

Serving suggestion

  • Take 2 tsp of rice porridge mix; add a cup of super-hot water/milk
  • Mix it well without lumps / if you are using a plain water then keep it in a low flame for few mins until it reaches smooth and creamy consistency
  • It is ready to be served now. Ideally, feed your baby when the porridge is warm
  • This is your baby’s first solid, so start it with a little thin consistency
  • You can gradually increases your feeding level and consistency

Note

  • For any baby food, always prepare fresh and feed your baby; as much possible, do not store food and feed the baby.
