Ragi / Finger millet Idli
This idli batter is made with the same procedure as regular idli batter, only addition is that you have to add RAGI flour while mixing the rice batter and urad dhal batter (and fenugreek seed) together. Mix them well and keep it for fermentation.
Measurements
- Par boiled rice – 3 cups
- Urad dhal – 1 cup
- Fenugreek seeds – 1 Tblsp
- Ragi Flour – 1 cup (I did not get a chance to experiment with ragi millet, so i am using ragi flour)
- Salt – as required
Procedure
- Same as normal idli batter procedure, at the final stage while mixing the urad dhal and rice batter together with salt, we have to add the ragi flour and mix it well till it reaches the idli batter consistency
- If you are using ragi millet then you have to soak the millet along with rice and grind it
- Ferment the batter as you would do normal idli batter
- Finally scoop the batter in the idli mould and serve when it is hot/warm
Feeding
- You can feed the soft idli to your baby just as it is; or you can feed the idli along with milk or dhal
