Ingredients:
- French cut beans – 2 cups (ref pic)
- Homemade Sambar powder – 2 tblsp
- Plain chili powder- ½ tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Coconut oil – 2 tblsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Grated coconut – 2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Procedure:
How to do french cut?
Wash and trim the edges; cut the beans diagonally (ref pic) and repeat the same for the rest of the beans and keep aside.
- Heat some coconut oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds; allow it to splutter
- Add the beans and sauté it for about a min or so and add some salt and sprinkle some water cover it with a lid and cook it for about 3 -4 mins.
- Now add the homemade sambar powder and chili powder into the beans and cook it for further more.
- Between grind the coconut-cumin seeds into coarsely without adding water.
- Once the beans cooked 80%, add the coarsely grounded coconut mixture and mix well and cover it a lid and cook it for about 2 mins.
- The simply delicious “FRENCH CUT BEANS SPICY PORIYAL” is ready to serve.
- Serve with hot rice/ chapathi.
NOTE/TIP:
- Even you can do it normal cut beans.
- Homemade sambar powder only gives you the grainy texture and it will enhance the taste.
