Ingredients:
- Raw rice- ½ cup
- Jaggery – ½ cup
- Pottukadalai/ roasted gram – 1 tblsp
- Ellu/sesame seeds – 1 tsp
- Cardamom powder – a generous pinch
- Ghee – 1tsp
Procedure:
- Soak half a cup of raw rice for about an hour and drain the water completely and spread the rice over a muslin cloth under room temperature. Once the rice dried completely, by using mixie jar grind the rice for about one round, it should be broken rice (too coarsely)
- In a pan dry roast the dried rice for about 2-3 mins or so and keep aside
- Dry roast pottukadalai and ellu for about a min
- Melt half a cup of jaggery and filter out the impurities (the consistency should be close to one string unless it will spoil the whole dish)
- In a pan, add the melted jaggery along with roasted pottukadalai, ellu with a tsp of ghee and a generous pinch of cardamom powder. bring it to boil and turn off the heat.
- cool completely and keep this in an air tight container over the kitchen counter more than a week.
