Tomato Kurma

Thakkali Kurma

Ingredients:

  • Onion – 1 (medium, finely chopped)
  • Tomatoes – 2 (large, finely chopped)
  • Ginger- garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Plain red chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt –to taste
  • Water – as req

Masala to grind

  • Freshly grated coconut – ¼ cup
  • Roasted gram/ pottukadalai – 1 tbslp
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few

To temper:

  • Coconut oil – 2 tblsp
  • Cinnamon stick – 1 inch
  • curry leaves – few

Procedure:

  • Heat 2 tbslp of coconut oil in a pan and add the cinnamon stick along with chopped onions and curry leaves ; saute it for about a min and add the ginger-garlic paste, mix well under medium flame for about a min
  • Add the chopped tomatoes along with salt, turmeric powder and plain red chili powder; cook until it turns mushy
  • Now add the required amount of water and bring it to boil
  • Meanwhile grind the coconut masala, add the grated coconut, fennel seeds, curry leaves and roasted gram/dahlia into a mixer jar along with some water and grind it into a fine paste( ref pic)

  • Now add the coconut paste into the tomato mixture and cook it for about 2-3 mins(ref pic)

  • The super easy and tasty “TOMATO KURMA” is ready to serve
