Cracked wheat Pongal

ONE POT MEAL

Ingredients:

  • Cracked wheat/ broken wheat – ½ cup
  • Water – 1 ¼ cup
  • Cracked black peppercorns – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Grated ginger – 1 tsp
  • Asafetida – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Ghee/ clarified butter – 2 tsp
  • Salt – to taste

Procedure:

  • Wash the cracked wheat and add it into a pressure cooker vessel along with required amount of water, crushed pepper, cumin seeds, asafetida, grated ginger, curry leaves and 2 tsp of ghee mix well and pressure cook it for about 2-3 whistles
  • Once the pressure has released add salt to taste and mix well
  • The easy, tasty and healthy “One pot- CRACKED WHEAT PONGAL” is ready

NOTES/TIP:

  • You can even add 1 tblsp of moong dhal along with cracked wheat; but this taste lighter
  • You can add few ghee toasted cashews along with 1 tblsp of hot ghee before serving, on high calorie note
