MURUNGAI KEERAI THANNI SAARU/ DRUMSTICK LEAVES SOUP:
About murungai keerai/drumstick leaves they are rich in fiber and these leaves are known to control the diabetics and improve the glucose tolerance. These leaves are exclusively control the blood cholesterol levels mainly Total cholesterol level and Triglyceride levels.Murungaikeerai/drumstick leaves are rich in anti-oxidants which helps to prevent from diabetic and cardiovascular diseases. It helps to regulate the blood flows that helps to reduce even the menstural cramps too. One of the most recommended greens during pre and post pregnancy.
A quiet easy and tasty recipe, we often do this especially your kid will love this thanni saaru (flavor-infused- water). A very popular dish in our hometown, really a super healthy-time saver-delicious recipe
Ingredients:
- Murungai keerai/drumstick leaves – 1cup
- Small onion/shallot – 3 nos
- Garlic – 2pods
- Cumin/seeragam – 1tsp
- Gingelly oil – 1 tblsp
- Salt – as req
- Water – as req
Procedure:
Step 1:
In a wide bowl clean and wash the leaves and keep it aside
Step 2:
In the pestle add shallots, garlic and cumin seeds and crush it well
Step 3:
Place a sauce pan add a tblsp of gingelly oil, once the oil get hot add the crushed onion-garlic-cumin seed mixture and sauté for a min or so
Step 4:
Now add the drumstick leaves and saute for a while or until the leaves turns shrink by then add about a cup of water and salt-bring it to boil. Within few mins you will get a delicious-flavorful-healthy soup is ready. Serve with hot rice or you can have it as it is.
