Kezhvaragu/Ragi /Keppai/Finger millet Puttu (sweet Version)
One of the most nutritious and healthy cereal. Some of the benefits of kezhvaragu are
- It is rich in protein
- It is a good source of minerals which includes calcium, iron, potassium and phosphorous which helps to maintain our bone density and a good health
- Rich in dietary fiber
- It helps to control the blood glucose levels (diabetic)
- These are rich in anti-oxidants which helps to prevent from cancer
- It reduces the bad cholesterol (Triglyceride) which reduce risk of cardiovascular disease
One of the easy, healthy food all the time especially during puberty and pregnancy. Very easy to make and here is the recipe
Ingredient:
- Kezhvaragu Mavu/ finger millet flour – 1cup
- Hot water – ¼ cup + 2tblsp
- Salt – as req
- Sugar / jaggery – ½ cup
- Cardamom powder – a generous pinch
- Grated coconut – 2tblsp
- Ghee roasted cashews (optional) – 5-8 nos
Procedure:
Step 1:
In a wide mixing bowl add the flour and salt mix well
Step 2:
Now sprinkle some water little by little and rub the flour well with your fingers. The consistency should be-when you take a handful of mixture in between your fist you should able to hold a shape like PIDI KOZHUKATTAI. Then the texture is perfect
Step 3:
Now place the mixture over the cheese/muslin cloth in the idli steamer or in the PUTTU MAKER (as shown in the Picture)
Step 4:
Let it cook for 10-12 mins. You will get a fluffy and soft KEZHVARAGU PUTTU
Step 5:
Transfer the cooked puttu mixture into a wide bowl and add jaggery powder/ sugar, cardamom powder, grated coconut and roasted nuts and mix well. Now the delicious-tasty-fluffy-Kezhvaragu Puttu is ready to serve.
