Cluster Beans/ kothavarangai Pirattal

Ingredients:

  • Cluster beans – 2 cups (1 inch length chopped)
  • Onion – 1 (chopped finely)
  • Tomato – 1 (chopped finely)
  • Plain chili powder –1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Cooking oil – 2 tblsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  • Grated coconut – 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp

Procedure:

  • Heat some oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds; allow it to splutter
  • Now add the chopped onion and tomato along with some curry leaves, sauté it for a min and add salt, turmeric powder and chili powder; cook it for about a min
  • Add the chopped cluster beans and mix well; add some water to cook the cluster beans.
  • Between grind the coconut-cumin seeds into a fine paste
  • Once the beans cooked 80%, add the coconut paste and mix well and cover it a lid and cook it for about 4 mins.
  • The healthy and tasty “KOTHAVARANGAI/ CLUSTER BEANS PIRATTAL” is ready to serve.
  • Serve with hot rice/ chapathi.

NOTE/TIP:

  • You can add little more water for gravy consistency.
  • You can also chop the cluster beans into the very small ½ inch size
