Kollu/ Horse gram Soup:
Ingredients:
- Kollu – ½ cup
- Chopped onion – 1 (medium size)
- Chopped Tomato – 2 (medium Size)
- Garlic – 3 pods
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Pepper corns – 1tsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Salt – to taste
Tempering:
- Gingelly oil – 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
- Asafetida – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Chopped green chili – 2 tsp
Procedure:
- Soak the kollu overnight and pressure cook it along with chopped onion, tomato, turmeric powder and 3 crushed garlics. Cook it for about 3-4 whistles.
- After the pressure is released, mash it well or grind it coarsely and keep aside.
- In a sauce pan, heat some gingelly oil. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, let it splutter. Add finely chopped green chilies and curry leaves, sprinkle some asafetida and pour the coarsely grounded soup mixture into the sauce pan. Bring it to boil. Add salt to taste and turn off the flame.
- Enjoy the delicious, healthy “Kollu Soup” with some hot rice/ chapathi/ idli/ dosa.
