Pottukadalai Podi

Pottukadalai podi/ Roasted Gram Powder:

Ingredients:

  • Pottukadalai – 1 cup
  • White sesame seeds/ vellai ellu – ¼ cup
  • Dry red chili – 5 nos
  • Asafetida – 1 tsp
  • Tamarind pod – 1 inch
  • Salt – to taste

Procedure:

  • Dry roast the pottukadalai for about 2-3 mins and transfer it into a bowl
  • Dry roast dry red chili for about 1-2 mins under medium flame and transfer it into a bowl
  • ry roast the black sesame seeds under low flame, it will splutter immediately once you started roasting, so don’t be panic.

  • Cool completely and grind it coarse fine along with some salt.
  • Healthy and fiber rich” Pottukadalai Podi” is ready.

Rice Mixing Procedure:

  • Heat a tblsp of gingelly oil, add 2 tblsp of pottukadalai Podi and fresh curry leaves, saute for a min and turn off the heat.
  • Now add a cup of warm rice into the mixture and mix gently.
  • Add salt if desired.
  • Enjoy the healthy and tasty “Pottukadalai Podi Sadam/Rice” as it is or with some green vegetable poriyal.

Note:

  • Store it in clean and dry glass/ air tight container for more shelf life
  • You can keep this podi over the counter for more than 2 weeks.
  • Always grind a small amount of podi varieties, so that you can enjoy the fresh taste and flavor.
  • You can have this Pottukadalai podi anytime.
  • Since, pottukadalai is a rich in protein, fiber, iron and fatty acids and very low in calorie. You can have this at any time.
  • The dietary fiber prevents from constipation, as it promotes easy bowel movement. No need to worry, to give it to your lil ones.
