KALYANA VAZHAKKAI CURRY/PORIYAL:
Vazhakkai/ raw banana a classic veggie, is named for spectacular side dish, this is one of the main side in our wedding meal. Very quick to cook and easy to make. Of all regular type of vazhakkai varuval I liked this kalyana vahzhakkai curry/ poriyal. I mom used to make for most of the functions at home. I love kalyana sapadu, because of me my mom started making kalyana sapadu varities like kalyana sambar, vahzakai curry, kalyana rasam and so on. Mouthwatering recipes, especially from my mom’s hand.
- This is NO Onion-Garlic Recipe, so you can make this for any festival occasions.
Ingredient:
- Raw banana – 2 no (medium)
- Coriander seeds – 1 tblsp
- Urad dhal – ½ tblsp
- Dry Red chili – 2 nos
- Cumin seeds – 1tsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Grated coconut – 1 tblsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Curry leaves – 1 sprig
- Coriander leaves – 1 tblsp
- Coconut oil – 1 tblsp
- Salt – as req
Procedure:
Step 1:
Peel the skin off and diced the bananas and let them soak into a cup of water until cook. In a medium sauce pan add about a cup of water along with diced raw bananas, ½ tsp of turmeric powder and a pinch of salt. Bring it to boil and turn off the flame. (Half-cook)
Step 2:
In a kadai dry roast the coriander seeds, cumin seeds, urad dhal, dry red chili and grated coconut until the nice aroma comes from the mixture. Cool completely and grind it medium fine and keep aside.
Step 3:
In a kadai add about a tblsp of coconut oil, once the oil get enough hot add mustard seeds, let it splutter. Add the par boiled raw bananas along with some fresh curry leaves and saute for a while. By then add the freshly grounded masala powder with respect to your banana quantity and give it a quick toss. Let it sit for another few mins and check the salt if needed add more.
Step 4:
Finally add some fresh coriander leaves and turn off the flame. njoy with some hot rice and rasam.
Note/ tip:
- Do not over boil the raw bananas.
- Coconut oil will enhance the flavor and taste. It is pure optional, you can use regular cooking oil.
