Bride/Bridegroom’s Maruveedu Azhaippu

Post wedding we have a specific custom called MARUVEEDU AZHAIPPU, is a visit of the newly married couple to their parents. It will occur usually on the day of marriage, followed by the 3rd day from the marriage and 5th /7th day from the marriage.

MARUVEEDU AZHAIPPU is a kind of emotional bonding especially to the BRIDE that even she got married she is very near to her parents.

The basic things should follow during the Azhaippu are

Bride’s Side(Pen Veettar)

On the day of Marriage ( 1st Azhaippu )

  • Paal Pazham to be given to the Bride and Bridegroom
  • Dinner to be organized by the Bride’s family to the Bridegroom’s family
  • Saree , Blouse for Daughter along with Manjal,kunkumam along with manjal kayiru& kizhangu manjal, thengai ,poo,pazham,beetal leaves & nut,blouse bit,money
  • Pant, Shirt ( or T Shirt ) for son in law
  • Sweets(2) count should be 101/301/501
  • Karam/savory (1) either mixture(no count ) or muruku again the count should be 101/301/501

 For first night

  • Might held at Bride/Bridegroom’s place
  • Nalaungu should be performed
  • New dress for the Bride and Bridegroom from Bride’s family
  • New bed spread and pillow covers

2nd azhaippu

  • Manjal,kunkumam along with manjal kayiru& kizhangu manjal, thengai ,poo,pazham,beetal leaves & nut,blouse bit,money

3rd azhaippu

  • Manjal,kunkumam along with manjal kayiru& kizhangu manjal, thengai ,poo,pazham,beetal leaves & nut,blouse bit,glass bangles,money
