Karuppu ulundhu sundal

//Black Urad dhal Sundal//

Ingredients:

  • Karuppu ulundhu – ½ cup
  • Grated coconut – 2 tblsp
  • Cumin seeds –1 tsp
  • Black peppercorn- ½ tsp
  • Water – as req
  • Salt – as req

To temper:

  • Gingelly oil – 1 tblsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Dry red chili – 2 nos
  • Asafetida – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – few

Procedure:

  • Wash and soak the black urad dhal for about 6-7 hours
  • Pressure cook it for about 2-3 whistles along with ½ tsp of salt
  • Heat a tblsp of gingelly oil and add the mustard seeds and allow it to splutter
  • Add the broken dry red chili, asafetida, curry leaves and boiled urad dhal; mix well and add few pinches of salt with grated coconut
  • Meanwhile, grind the unroasted cumin seeds and black peppercorns coarsely and add it into the sundal mixture; toss it well.
  • The simple, healthy and tasty “BLACK URAD DHAL / KARUPPU ULUNDHU SUNDAL” is ready
