Ivy gourd/ kovakkai Poriyal

Ingredients:

  • kovakkai –1 cup (finely chopped)
  • Onion – 1 no medium (finely chopped)
  • Grated coconut – ¼ cup
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Green chili – 1 no
  • Salt – to taste

Tempering:

  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
  • Coconut oil – 2 tblsp

Procedure:

  • Wash and trim the edges off and chop finely.
  • In a pan, heat some coconut oil. Add mustard and cumin seeds, allow it to splutter. Now add chopped onion and saute for a while
  • Add the finely chopped kovakkai and add salt to taste.
  • Sprinkle some water and cover it with a lid. Cook under medium flame for about 2-3 mins.
  • Meanwhile grind the grated coconut, green chili, cumin seeds and curry leaves finely and sprinkle the grounded mixture into the cooked kovakkai and turn off the flame.
  • Tasty and delicious “IVY GOURD/KOVAKKAI Poriyal” is ready to serve.
