Classic Okra

Ingredient: 

  • Sliced okra – 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Plain red chili powder – ½ – 1 tsp
  • Fennel powder – 1 tsp
  • Grated coconut – 2 tblsp
  • Cooking oil – 2 tblsp
  • Salt – as req

 Procedure:

  • Slice the okra in ¼ inch thick (if it is too thick, then it will take longer to cook). In a sheet pan spread the sliced okra to dry before cooking.
  • Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed pan, add the sliced okras and saute for few mins with required amount of salt in a medium flame. Once you find slime-free okras then add turmeric and red chili powder and saute for few mins in a medium-low flame.
  • Once the okras are almost done, sprinkle some fennel/ sombu powder and freshly grated coconuts and turn off the flame. Serve with hot rice or chapathi.
