About Navaratri:
Navaratri – Nava Means”Nine”, ratri means “Night”. Once of the very famous Hindu festival celebrated all over india. It is celebrated for Nine Nights and 10 days, where we worship Goddess “Durga/Shakthi”.
Towards the southern part of India like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, people keep Kolu (“Thematic clay dolls”). They are arranged in an odd number steps (padi) to tell a story. Most of the themes are related to Goddess Durga/Parvathi/ Shakthi.
Not everyone will keep the kolu during Navaratri, it purely depends on their family customs. During kolu, each and every morning and evening we have to perform special Pooja ends with aarti followed by naivedyam to goddess Durga.
It should be with one sweet and savory. Tough we do have a lot of savory snack varieties for naivedyam, sundal/ pulses food are the very famous naivedyam during Navaratri.
