KARADAIYAN NOMBU/ SAVITRI VIRATAM:
It is an important festival in Tamil Nadu especially for married women. It is observed exactly when tamil month of MAASI ends and PANGUNI begins. Women observe fast on this special day and followed by a grand feast. It is believed that women offer prayers for the longevity and well-being of their husbands.
Women should tie a yellow thread tied with a flower around their neck for the well-being of their husbands on “Gowri Nalla Neram”.
The special neivadhyam on this day is “KARADAIYAN ADAI”, both in sweet and savory versions along with unmelted butter.
Story behind:
“SAVITRI” offered handful of melted butter and adai (mixture of pulses and rice flour) to Lord Yamadharma as a thank giving for returning the life of her husband “SATYAVAN”
