Instant Tomato Dosa

//Thakkali Dosai//


  • Red rice/ Matta rice – ½ cup
  • Sona masoori rice – ½ cup
  • Ripped Tomatoes – 2 (large)
  • Coriander seeds -1 tsp
  • Dry red chili – 3 nos
  • Salt – to taste
  • Water – as required
  • Gingelly oil – as req


  • Finely chopped onion – ¼ cup
  • Finely chopped coriander leaves – 2 tblsp
  • Finely chopped curry leaves – 1 tblsp
  • Finely chopped Ginger – 2 tsp
  • Asafetida – ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Crushed black pepper – 1 tsp


  • Wash and Soak the red rice and sona masoori together for about 2 hours and grind it coarsely along with 2 ripped tomatoes, dry red chili and coriander seeds (ref pic)

  • Transfer into a big bowl and add required amount of water (the consistency should be watery)
  • Now add the finely chopped onion, coriander leaves, curry leaves, ginger, asafetida, cumin seeds, crushed black pepper and salt and mix well (ref pic)

  • Heat the dosa pan/tawa and pour the dosa batter and sprinkle some oil over the dosa (ref pic) cook it for about 2 mins on medium flame and flip it gently and cook it for another min (ref pic) and serve hot

  • The flavorful, tasty and crispy “INSTANT TOMATO DOSA” is ready to serve


  • I have used red rice and it turned out really well; those who don’t have red rice, you can use regular idli rice
  • The ADD-ONS are totally optional; you can skip whichever you don’t like;
